Alibates flint has been used by human beings throughout 13,000 years of North American history. Until around 1870, Alibates flint was used for projectile points, scrapers, knives, and other stone tools. In the late 1800s, Alibates flint was occasionally used for gunflints. Today, visitors to the Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument can see Alibates flint on display in the visitor center or on a ranger-guided tour to the quarry sites on top of one of the mesas.
