Springfield 1908 Race Riot National Monument is a new national park located in central Springfield, Illinois. No facilities or services are available. However, visitors can get a view of the site from the south end of the HSHS St. John's Hospital Women & Children's Clinic parking lot.

While there isn’t physical evidence of the historic “Badlands” neighborhood visible, visitors can see the area that was heavily damaged by the Springfield 1908 Race Riot through the fence. Visit this website's Directions page for more information on visiting.

Passport to Your National Parks® stamps for the National Monument are available at Lincoln Home National Historic Site.

Because it’s a new park, many programs and materials are not yet available. Over the coming years, the National Park Service will work with the local community and partners to plan for future development and visitor experiences associated with the new park. Interim measures will look at safety and access and explore opportunities to share the history of the site.

View the Things to Do page of this website for other activities related to the race riot and civil rights history in Springfield.
