NPS Photo
American Camp's prairie offers some of the best hiking trails on San Juan Island. Even in summer one can find solitude along the bluffs and in the pocket coves giving onto the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Click on the links below to access maps and trail information for American and English camps. Visit the San Juan Island Trails Committee web site for information about trails throughout the island.

The Royal Marine cemetery is about a quarter of the way up the Young Hill trail. It is the resting place of five marines and one civilian. Another marine, whose body was never found, is memorialized. The four masonry stones are original. The wooden marker is a replica of the original which is housed in the park's collection.
