Our charming three-quarter-mile trail winds through a mix of grass and gravel paths, perfect for a leisurely walk or an invigorating stroll. Open year-round from dawn to dusk, the trail invites you to experience the beauty of the great outdoors in every season. From the vibrant greens of spring to the crisp air of autumn, there’s always something new to discover.

Bring your furry friend along too! Leashed dogs are welcome to join you on the park grounds and trails. And for an extended adventure, explore the nearby Martin Van Buren Nature Area trails to enjoy even more of this peaceful landscape.

Wayside Loop Trail


Due to the historic nature of the site, pathways and grounds may be uneven. Ticks are common throughout the area. When walking through the lawn or around the local trails, look out for ticks that may climb onto your shoes or clothing.

Stroll along the picturesque Wayside Loop and immerse yourself in fascinating tales shared by park rangers. Learn about Van Buren’s life, the 220-acre farm he called home, and the hardworking individuals who lived and worked here. With nine stops along the historic carriage road and two more at the farm’s edge, this self-guided tour is a perfect blend of history, nature, and storytelling.

For dog lovers, don’t miss the Dogs of the NPS Audio Tour! This charming addition features five stops highlighting the important stories of specific canines in the National Park Service.
