Step back in time and learn about the frontier experience in the Texas Hill Country during the 1800’s. Using the historic Johnson Settlement as an outdoor classroom, students will have the opportunity to (A) reflect on how frontier settlement impacted the land and the hardships of frontier life, or (B) learn about the importance of the cook and the chuckwagon to a successful cattle drive.
Try your hand as a rancher! At one of only two working ranches in the National Parks System, students explore sustainable farming and ranching practices through active participation in engaging discussions and group games at LBJ’s Showbarn. Rangers invite students to explore the question, “What would my ranch look like?” as students learn about responsible land management and stewardship.
Visit President Johnson’s Reconstructed Birthplace and experience the natural beauty that inspired some of his environmental legislation. Through an exploration of LBJ’s front yard, students learn about President and Ladybird Johnson’s environmental advocacy and discover ways that they can protect the natural world around them.
Being a Park Ranger is so much more than working with the public! From backcountry Search and Rescue to Biologist, the many careers and work that you can do as a Park Ranger are countless! Learn more about the various types of jobs that a Park Ranger can do, and see where you might find your place in the National Park Service.
This national program offers students the chance to learn more about what it takes to be stewards of our National Parks and public lands, how to protect the environment, and an opportunity to earn a National Park Service Park Pass for an entire year!
