REQUESTING AN ACADEMIC FEE WAIVER FOR GLEN CANYON NRA

Academic Fee Waiver with Lesson Plan (pdf)

If your group is an educational institution recognized by a federal, state or local government and is visiting Glen Canyon National Recreation Area to satisfy curriculum requirements, you may be eligible to receive a waiver of entrance fees into the park. Requests for an academic fee waiver must meet the following requirements:

Eligibility:

Applicants must provide proof that they are a recognized school or bona fide academic institution by submitting one of the following types of documentation:

  • A statement confirming educational or scientific tax exemption, from the IRS or the applicant's national, state or local tax authority.......OR
  • A statement from a bona fide academic institution meeting one of these eligibility standards, confirming that the group is visiting for the purpose of providing transferable academic credit based on a curriculum;.......OR
  • A statement of accreditation, or recognition as an educational institution, from a legitimate international, national, regional, state, or local authority for the applicant's location.

Educational Purpose:

Show the educational purpose of the visit. Applicants must provide a written statement (documentation) verifying that the visit supports a specific curriculum for which academic credit if offered. A syllabus may be requested or a copy of the school's course catalog or handbook. 

Relevance to Park Resources:

Relevance to park resources or facilities must be described. Applicants must provide a written statement identifying the park resources and/or facilities that will be used to support the educational purpose of the visit, and how they are relevant to that purpose.

How to apply:

Complete the Academic Fee Waiver Application and Lesson Plan. Email it back to us using the button at the end of the Fee Waiver document. If you are unable to email the form, print it out and mail it to us at the address indicated on the form.

Fee Waivers must be applied for in advance. Applications for fee waivers should be received in the park 3-4 weeks prior to the anticipated visit.                 

If all the required criteria are provided and approved by the park, an academic fee waiver will be granted for access into Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

The park will retain the right to limit the number of chaperones, teachers, and guides.

If your group is interested in a ranger guided educational program, please contact the Education Specialist at 928-608-6353.

Upon arrival at the park, each vehicle must have a copy of the academic fee waiver and permit. The academic fee waiver applies only to park entrance fees. Fee waivers do not include camping or other recreation use fees.
