Status of a variety of on-going research projects is shared every two years at Fire Island National Seashore.
This conference, which is open to the public, includes updates of recent natural and cultural resource projects conducted on Fire Island and the William Floyd Estate. Experts from academia, government, and conservation organizations present topical sessions in cultural resources; wildlife management; inventory and monitoring; ocean and bay processes, and current park planning. Conference attendees will be able to gain insight into how the National Park Service uses science to guide management decisions.
Topping off the agenda of the last conference was an update of the park's General Management Planning process.
New for 2007 were two panel discussions:
- A New National Park Service Initiative of Ocean Stewardship: Opportunities for Fire Island National Seashore and Great South Bay
- Storm Damage Reduction Planning for the South Shore of Long Island: Panel Presentations on the Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point Reformulation Plan (FIMP)
