Issued November 13, 2024
CN#24-113
Effective November 13, 2024

Effective immediately, Fire Island National Seashore has initiated certain fire restrictions due to the prolonged dry weather with consistent winds that has resulted in red flag conditions and high fire danger throughout Long Island.

In accordance with 36 CFR, Chapter 1, Parts 1-7 authorized by Title 54 USC, § 100751(a), and due to these wildlife conditions, the following fire restrictions will be implemented at Fire Island National Seashore:

  • No outdoor smoking, except inside personal vehicles (36 CFR §2.21 and §2.13), at the following sites:

    • William Floyd Estate

    • Federal tract of land known as the Carrington Tract located between Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove.

  • No open flames or use of cooking stoves in backcountry areas (36 CFR §2.21).

The temporary closure will be lifted when wildland fire conditions improve at the park or within the region. For further information, please contact Chief Ranger Erik Westpfahl at (631)942-7871 or via email: e-mail us.(Authority: Section 1.5, Chapter 1, Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations)
