Know Before You Go
Parts of Fire Island are accessible all year, but most people come during the summer months (late-June through September) when the weather is most favorable for beach related activities. In the off-season (October through April), public transportation to the island may be limited, and some services on various parts of the island are unavailable.
The Fire Island Lighthouse and Wilderness Visitor Center, located on the west and east ends of Fire Island respectively, are accessible by car year-round. Please be sure to check hours of operation or call when planning your visit.
The William Floyd Estate, located in Mastic Beach on Long Island, is open from May 1st to the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The Old Mastic House is closed to the public for renovations. Visitors are encouraged to explore the estate grounds.
Watch Hill and Sailors Haven, accessible by private boat, passenger ferry, or on foot from nearby Fire Island communities, are open late-May to mid-October.
