There are many opportunities to work for the National Park Service. At Fire Island National Seashore a number of temporary employees are hired each year in several career fields. Summer seasonal positions are generally advertised from late January through early spring. Vacant permanent positions are occasionally announced.

Please see www.usajobs.gov or below for a list of current openings. You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify and a valid state driver's license is required for most positions.

Fire Island National Seashore also offers internships during the field season. Interning is a great way to gain experience in a variety of National Park Service career fields.

Lifeguarding

Open lifeguard positions will be posted above and on USAJOBS. Lifeguard positions for the Summer 2022 season are expected to open in early February.

All lifeguards must pass a pre-employment exam before applying. Tests are generally conducted during the winter or early spring.
