Denali National Park and Preserve
Murie Science and Learning Center

The Murie Science and Learning Center is part of a nation-wide effort by the National Park Service to do more science in our national parks and to take what is learned from that science and share it more effectively with the public. With a facility located in the entrance area of Denali National Park and Preserve, the center represents eight of Alaska's northern national parks and teams with a growing number of partners in research and educational activities. The building is open to the public and features an exhibit area, classroom, and office space for visiting scientists. It is the hub for a variety of educational activities during the summer months. It also serves as Denali's winter visitor center, from late September until May 14 every year.

During the summer season, the facility is open 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. In the winter season, the facility is open 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily, closing only for the major holidays.

Educational Offerings
The Murie Science and Learning Center offers many small group interactive course each summer, including teacher trainings, field seminars, and youth camps. Partners include Alaska Geographic, the Alaska Geographic Institute, the Denali Education Center, Denali Borough School District, University of Alaska, and Joint Ventures.

Moose may appreciate an increase in woody vegetation

Did You Know?
Warmer average temperatures over several decades have resulted in expansion of woody vegetation. If this warming trend continues, it will change Alaska's ecosystems and drastically alter the physical appearance of Denali's landscape, as treeline marches higher up the mountains.
