Choosing an Entrance Pass

Do you have or qualify for a discounted America the Beautiful Pass?

If you already have an America the Beautiful—the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass, that's the only entrance pass you need. Seniors, military, visitors with a permanent disability, and families with a 4th grader are eligible for a free or discounted America the Beautiful pass.

Entrance Passes

While the Craters of the Moon annual pass can be purchased at the entrance booth, the park also accepts the America the Beautiful passes and 4th grade pass.

Standard Entrance Pass

$10.00–$20.00

Credit cards are the only form of payment accepted at the automated fee machine and the entrance booth. If you would prefer to pay with cash, please first stop by the visitor center to obtain an entrance voucher for cash payment.

For Vehicles

If you enter the park in a motorized vehicle, your entrance pass covers both you and your passengers. Your passengers do not need a separate pass.

Costs for vehicles with more than 15 passengers are listed below under Organizations and Businesses.

This per-vehicle fee applies to private, non-commercial vehicles and provides entrance into the park for seven consecutive days. The fee covers the driver and any passengers.

This motorcycle fee provides entrance into the park for seven consecutive days.

For Individuals without a Vehicle

If you enter the park on a bicycle or on foot and are at least 16 years old, you need your own entrance pass. Children under the age of 16 don't need an entrance pass.

This per-person fee provides entrance into the park for seven consecutive days. Youth age 15 and under are free.

For Organizations & Businesses

Classes or groups from accredited academic institutions may apply for a fee waiver ahead of their visit by contacting the park. Academic fee waivers are not granted automatically. Educational groups must apply and meet the two criteria to receive a fee waiver: 1) eligibility and 2) educational purpose and relevance of park resources or facilities. Groups that choose to not make a reservation or apply for an academic fee waiver will be charged the standard entrance fee per vehicle.

America the Beautiful Passes are non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. Passholders must show valid photo identification (ID) with each pass.

How to Get an America the Beautiful Pass

In Person (Recommended)

Passes can be purchased or picked up at over 1,000 federal recreation sites.

Order Online, Receive by Mail

To receive your pass by mail, order online at the USGS Online Store . Online orders are for physical passes, not digital passes, and may take up to three weeks to be processed and delivered. Order receipts may not be used in place of a physical pass. We recommend ordering at least three weeks in advance of your visit, or picking up a pass in person instead.

2024 Free Entrance Days in the National Parks

Come experience the national parks! All National Park Service sites that charge an entrance fee will offer free admission to everyone (other fees, including timed entry or reservation fees, may apply). Mark your calendar for these entrance fee-free dates:

 

Passes

The following passes are also accepted for entrance:

  1. Interagency Annual Pass: $80
    This annual pass covers entrance and standard amenity fees for national parks and other federal fee areas; Valid for one year through the month of purchase. You can purchase the pass at the park entrance station or at the visitor center when the entrance station is closed.
  2. Interagency Senior Pass: $80
    This is a lifetime pass for U.S. citizens or permanent residents age 62 or over. The pass provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity. The pass can only be obtained in person at the park entrance station when open. The Senior Pass provides a 50% discount on camping.
  3. Interagency Senior Annual Pass: $20
    This is an annual pass for U.S. citizens or permanent residents age 62 or over. The pass provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity. The pass can only be obtained in person at the park at the park entrance station when open. The Senior Pass provides a 50 percent discount on camping.
  4. Interagency Access Pass: Free
    This is a lifetime pass for U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities. Documentation is required to obtain the pass. The pass can only be obtained in person at the park entrance station when open. The Access Pass provides a 50 percent discount on camping.
  5. Interagency 4th Grader Pass: Free
    This pass is available to U.S. 4th Graders (including home-schooled and free-choice learners 10 years of age). Valid for the duration of the 4th grade school year through the following summer (September to August). Visit everykidoutdoors.gov for more information. This pass provides free access to national parks, national forests, national wildlife refuges, and more.
  6. Interagency Volunteer Pass: Free
    This is an annual pass for volunteers with 250 cumulative service hours with federal agencies that participate in the Interagency Pass Program. Contact the park's volunteer coordinator at (208) 527-1335 to learn about volunteer opportunities at Craters of the Moon.
  7. Interagency Annual Pass for US Military: Free
    This is an annual pass covering entrance and standard amenity fees for all national parks and other federal fee areas. Free to active duty US military personnel and their dependents with proper identification (current CAC Card or qualified DD Form 1173 required). Obtain with military ID card at the park entrance station when open or at the BLM field office in Shoshone.
 

Free Entrance During Loop Road Closures


Whenever the Loop Road is not fully open to automobile travel, no entrance fee is charged. Depending on weather, this occurs roughly from November through April. Check current conditions.

If your visit during a free day extends beyond the free day(s) and you re-enter the park after the free day, you will be required to pay the regular entrance fee. Camping fees are not included.

 

Camping Fees


The 42 site Lava Flow Campground is located among the lava formations beyond the visitor center. Campsites are available on a first come, first served basis for $15 per night per campsite ($8 per campsite in the early and late season when no water is available). Self register at the campground (no reservations) for the campsite of your choice. Payment is only accepted by way of a credit card at the automated fee machine in the campground.
