Weather

The weather on Alcatraz is unpredictable and liable to change unexpectedly, so be prepared by bringing along a light jacket or sweater no matter how nice the day starts out. Cold, foggy mornings may give way to sunny afternoons, which in turn can shift quickly back to more fog and blustery winds.

Air Quality & Smoke

Air quality can vary quite a bit in an urban environment like the San Francisco Bay Area. Inversions can trap smog from motor vehicles and industry, especially during winter months. During summer and fall, ozone and smoke from wildfires can degrade the air quality, reducing visibility and posing a health concern, especially for sensitive people.
