V-E Day

On May 7, 1945 the Allied forces accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany in Reims, France.The following day, May 8th, citizens around the world celebrated the news of “Victory in Europe (VE) Day.” It was the first hurdle on the path to global peace.

America Enters the War

On December 8, 1941, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt addressed a Joint Session of Congress, requesting a declaration of war against the Empire of Japan. The president had chosen his words with care, even editing the final text as he delivered the speech.

 

August 1945
