The First Amendment gives all Americans the right to free speech. It is a cornerstone of American democracy. In order to protect park resources and to keep all visitors safe, the Courts have recognized that activities associated with the exercise of Americans' constitutional rights may be reasonably regulated. All groups are required to obtain a permit to utilize the park's First Amendment free speech areas.
Groups of 15 or less may gather in the designated First Amendment Area located on the map, on Auburn Ave. Groups larger than 15 people must gather in the designated First Amendment Area to the east of the overflow parking lot. Please refer to the map below for the designated First Amendment Areas.
The park's designated First Amendment free speech areas are as follows:
First Amendment Area for groups of 15 or less: sidewalk between the black wrought iron fence in front of the historic Taft Home, and Auburn Ave. Groups must not block or hinder access to the front parking lot of the Taft Education Center.
First Amendment Area for groups larger than 15: grassy area EAST of the overflow parking lot on Southern Ave. Groups must not block or hinder access to the parking lot.
