Site Highlights

At Wilson's Creek, discover the hallowed grounds of the second major battle of the Civil War. Explore the museum to learn about the mounting conflict, then head out into the battlefield to walk in the footsteps of the soldiers who fought here on August 10th, 1861. While at the visitor center, ask how you can become a Junior Ranger! The activity book is free and helps learners of all ages connect to the events and stories of the site.

Drive the 5 mile Tour Road to various important locations in the battlefield. Stop at the Ray House to consider the civilian experience during the battle. At Stop 5, stand on the wire road and visualize a major turning point of the battle at Sigel's final position. Then, take the gravel walking path down to the Lyon marker at Stop 7 to learn about the fighting at Bloody Hill and the death of General Nathaniel Lyon.

Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, park rangers offer historic weapons demonstrations, talks, and guided tours. Events throughout the year offer various opportunities to explore more stories and resources of the park. Join us on August 10th to help commemorate the battle through a ceremony and special programs.
