REPUBLIC, MO – On Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. join Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield for Park Day. Sponsored by the American Battlefield Trust, this annual clean-up offers a chance for local community groups and individual volunteers to make a difference in honoring and protecting our nation’s battlefields. Volunteer projects will be available for a variety of activity levels from making and preparing junior ranger booklets and rolling paper cartridges to painting benches to the annual stream clean and more.

Pre-registration is required. Please call the Wilson’s Creek Visitor Center at 417-732-2662 or email us at e-mail us to register you or your group. Participants should meet at the Visitor Center at 9:00 a.m. to complete registration and split into work groups.

Planned activities include a stream clean-up of Wilson's Creek, preparing the visitor center and picnic area for the spring and summer, and preparing visitor center and living history materials including junior ranger booklets and rolling empty paper cartridges. Other activities may be available depending on park needs and staff availability. The stream clean-up is a strenuous activity which is best suited for adults and teenagers while other activities are more suitable for families and groups with younger children. Additional information is available at https://www.battlefields.org/events/park-day/volunteer-opportunities/wilsons-creek-national-battlefield-0.

Volunteers working outside the visitor center should wear appropriate work clothing including as long-sleeved shirts and long pants and closed shoes or boots (no open-toe shoes or sandals). Hats, sunscreen, and bug spray are highly recommended. Bring a water bottle to refill at the visitor center and a sack lunch. All other materials needed for the project will be provided.

At 1:00 p.m., bring your sack lunch to the visitor center and join staff in the auditorium for a special Park Day program. A staff member will discuss the history of battlefield preservation here at Wilson's Creek and across the country.
