DC Queer History Walking Tour

Explore the extensive LGBTQ+ history preserved in Washington, DC's, National Park Service sites. Learn about some of the people, places and protests that shaped and impacted the Queer community in Washington, DC, and the United States from the 1700s to today! Each stop also offers an activity to connect your lived experience to these stories of resistance and resilience.

 

 

 

Notes on Language:

This tour is called DC Queer Walking Tour. The use of the word queer is an intentional choice. While we acknowledge the term holds a negative connotation for some, we use it to create the most inclusive cohort of stories possible. For our contributors, many of whom identify as queer, the term reflects how they understand themselves and with historical figures who did not have or did not use terms like Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender or Nonbinary.
