August's Featured Special ProgramsSpecial Presentations and Guided WalksExploring Stone Walls - Ranger Guided TourSunday August 18 from 9:30 to 10:15 am Join Ranger Tom on a ramble through the fields of Weir Farm National Historical Park to examine the three different types of stone walls on the property and learn about their rich history. The stone walls not only provide an opportunity to explore New England's geologic and cultural past, but they have also served as a source of inspiration to the artists that have lived and visited here for over 140 years. The tour will meet at the Park Sign out front of the Visitor Center - no registration required! Park Ranger Presentation – An American Artist in Paris Thursday August 22 from 9:00 to 10:00 am Park Ranger Amanda will give a presentation about Julian Alden Weir's time as a student in Paris. Amanda will highlight Weir’s studies at Les Ecole des Beaux-Arts, the places that inspired him while living abroad, and the relationships with other renowned artists he met along the way. Amanda visited many of these sites herself, and her presentation is sure to be a special one! Program will take place in the Burlingham Barn classroom space. No Registration Required! Women's History in National Parks Program with Dr. Darla Shaw Friday August 30 from 9:30 to 10:30 am Join Ridgefield storyteller and women’s studies scholar Dr. Darla Shaw to learn about Women's History in National Parks. Dr. Shaw conducts research and leads programming on Women's history in national parks across the country, including Rosie the Riveter National Historical Park, Women's Rights National Historical Park, Springfield Armory National Historic Site, and Weir Farm National Historical Park. The program will feature an overview of twenty National Park Service sites on the East Coast that focus on the lives of remarkable women in history. Dr. Shaw will share highlights, stories, and photographs of dynamic and influential women in celebration of Women's Equality Day. Program will take place in the Burlingham Barn classroom space. No Registration Required!
