Virgin Islands Folk Life Festival

Every year the island comes together to dance, sing, listen to music and stories, watch craft demonstrations, and of course, taste the traditional baked goods while celebrating the annual Folk Life Festival.

Life was hard on St John in the 1800s and early 1900s. The local population used their ingenuity and knowledge of the resources available to survive and even prosper when others failed. The Folk Life Festival is an opportunity for children, locals, and visitors to learn how residents survived on local foods, fish and skills.

Folk Life Festival 2017

The annual Folk Life Festival was held February 23rd and 24th 2017 at the Annaberg Sugar Plantation. This year we celebrated the 100 year anniversary of the transfer of the Virgin Islands to the United States.
