Educational Fee Waivers

 

To obtain an Academic Fee Waiver:

Please, Mail, fax or email the completed NPS 10-1750 Education Reservation Request Form along with proper documentation at least 3 weeks prior to your visit.

Also with your completed application, please include a brief summary cover letter, preferably on a school letterhead:

  • Contact information of group leader and school
  • Cell phone number where you can be reached on the day of educational visit
  • Number of students and chaperons
  • Number and type of vehicle(s)
  • Date(s) of visit
  • Short version of the educational purpose of the visit along with any relevance to park resources or facilities as it pertains to the educational component of your visit.

Criteria for Academic Fee Waivers:

1) Eligibility

National or international applicants must prove they are a school or bona fide academic institution or school (public, private, homeschool) by submitting one of the following types of documentation to be attached to the NPS 10-1750 Education Reservation Request Form (see Section 5, Criteria One):

  1. A statement confirming educational or scientific tax exemption from the IRS or the applicant's national, state, or local tax authority; or
  2. A statement, from a bona fide academic institution meeting one of these eligibility standards, confirming that the group is visiting for the purpose of providing transferable academic credit based on a curriculum; or
  3. A statement of accreditation or recognition as an educational institution from a legitimate international, national, regional, state, or local authority for the applicant's location.

2) Educational Purpose of the Visit

Applicants must provide a written statement (see Section 5, Criteria Two) verifying that the visit supports a specific curriculum for which academic credit is awarded.

3) Relevance of Park Resources or Facilities

Applicants must provide a written statement (see Section 5, Criteria Three) identifying the park resources and/or facilities that will be used to support the educational purpose of the visit, and how they are relevant to that purpose.

Additional Information:

  • Once approved, each vehicle must have a copy of the Fee Waiver as well as giving one to the entrance station upon arrival.
  • Groups arriving without an approved fee waiver will be charged the applicable standard entrance fee.
  • Commercial enterprises are not eligible for fee waivers, but school groups using a commercial vehicle for transportation only may apply for a waiver.
  • Generally, service, civic, and fraternal organizations (Scouting, Rotary, Elks, etc.) do not qualify for an Academic Fee Waiver.
