Walking Trails Near Tupelo, MS

Short hikes and walks near Tupelo, Mississippi are great for exercise and really taking the time to observe nature. The hikes are easy with a few short inclines on some trails. Walking times on the trails listed below range from five minutes to about 30 minutes. But do not hurry to get to the end of the trail. Explore with your eyes, feel the change of footing under your shoes, smell the aromas eminating from around you. Sit down and experience the passage of time in a forest. The longest hike in this area, the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail is six miles in one direction. You can choose to do it all up and back for a long hike, or a just a short section. During the summer months be sure to use insect repellent on any trail.

- Sites: Natchez Trace Parkway, Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail
This trailhead is located just across the Parkway from the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center. Hikers can travel six miles along the outskirts of Tupelo (12 miles roundtrip). You can make the walk as long or as short as you would like on this out and back trail. This section of Scenic Trail is open to hikers only and requires walking on the Parkway for road and creek crossings.

The Chickasaw Village Site is nearly 90 acres of Blackland Prairie and forest in the heart of Tupelo, MS. The size and shape of the Chickasaw summer and winter homes are preserved. The Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail goes through the village site. An interpretive shelter offers information about the Chickasaw people.
