Visit the remains of the South Fork Dam

Visitors can access the North and South Abutments on the remains of the South Fork Dam.
Brown park signs will direct visitors as well as the park map that is available at the Visitor Center. A cell phone tour is also available at the Visitor Center and provides additional information.
Interpretive panels on the abutments will help the visitor learn about the history of the South Fork Dam and May 31, 1889.
The North Abutment, located on Lake Road, can be accessed via a boardwalk near the parking lot. Round trip, the walk is approximately 0.40 miles. The spillway can be also be seen.
The South Abutment is located on South Abutment Road off of Route 869 in Saint Michael. From the parking lot to the abutment is approximately 0.10 miles.The Walk Through the Ruins trail begins near the South Abutment.
Weather permitting, park grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset. The remains of the dam are also visible from the Visitor Center.
Please note there is no winter maintenance on the remains of the dam.
Pet excrement must be removed from picnic areas, trails, and areas of heavy public use.
There are no fees for entrance or public activities at Johnstown Flood National Memorial.
Park grounds are open from sunrise to sunset.
There are designated a designated accessible parking spot in the North Abutment parking lot.
The abutment be accessed via a boardwalk near the parking lot. It is a level trail. Round trip, the walk is approximately 0.40 miles.
South Abutment
The abutment can be accessed via a flat grassy surface. Please watch for rocks and tree stumps. Round trip, the walk is approximately 0.10 miles.
