Thing to Do
Tour the South Rim Visitor Center
The South Rim Visitor Center is a great first-stop during your visit to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Stop here to get recommendations from park rangers, tour the interactive exhibits, watch the park movie, shop the park bookstore, and grab maps and brochures to inform your adventure.
The visitor center is open all year, but opening and closing times vary by season. Three hiking trails and the Gunnison Point Overlook may be accessed from the visitor center. Maps, newspapers, junior ranger books, and wilderness permits are available here. There is a self-registration kiosk for wilderness permits when the visitor center is closed. The visitor center has car parking and some trailer/RV parking. In the summer, the parking lot often fills.
