Take a Self-Guiding Walking Tour

Visit 21 stops at Fort Monroe including: the moat, casemates, Flagstaff Bastion, pet cemetery, Parade Ground, Lincoln Gun, Chapel of the Centurion, Quarters No. 1, the Algernourne Oak, 1619 Historic Marker (commemoration site of landing of first Africans in the Virginia Colony), Bandstand, Old Point Comfort Lighthouse, Engineer Wharf, Outlook Beach, and Endicott-era batteries. These sites are both inside and outside the fort walls and in relatively proximity to each other. This tour can be walked or driven.
Start at the Fort Monroe Visitor & Education Center at 30 Ingalls Road, Fort Monroe, Virginia. Get a self-guide from the information desk. Self-guides are available outside the Visitor & Education Center after hours.
The self-guiding tour stops are all the fort's ground level. The tour follows sidewalks that have curb cuts.
