Dutch Farming Heritage Trail

The Dutch Farming Heritage Trail is a roughly 3 mile loop trail that extends from Martin Van Buren National Historic Site to the historic Van Alen House operated by the Columbia County Historical Society. The trail is passes through a mixture of woods and farmlands along its length whcich also has a few interpretive signs to document the history of farming in this area. The path can be begun at trail heads either in front of or behind the Visitor Center. I is mildly hilly, and can be muddy after periods of heavy rain. It is a great option for spending some time outdoors, and is particularly popular with birders.

The Dutch Farming Heritage Trail is a roughly three mile looping nature trail. The trail travels between Martin Van Buren National Historic Site and the Van Alen House which is managed by the Columbia County Historical Society. The trail passes through both woods and farmland along its route. The route also passes a few interpretive signs which provide information about the long history of agriculture in this area. The trail is mildly hilly, and can be muddy after heavy rains as it nears the Kinderhook Creek. A great option if you would like to spend some time outside, the trail is paticularly popular with birders especially in migration season!

Martin Van Buren National Historic Site
The trail begins at either end of the loop either in front of or behind the visitor center on the north end of the park. Both entrances to the trail are marked with brown signs.

The trail is open all year round! Be sure to check on weather conditions before setting out! Wear waterproof boots if there has been recent rain or snowshoes if there is an abundance of snow!
