Imagine sending a postcard to a loved one (or maybe even yourself?) bearing the postal cancellation that Benjamin Franklin used when he was postmaster back in the 1700s: "B. Free Franklin."

Appointed postmaster of Philadelphia in 1737, Franklin later became co-Postmaster General (of the North American colonies) for the British (1757-1774).
