Anchialine Pools STEM Kit, Grades 6-8

Anchialine pools are unique coastal brackish water pools that occur in the United States only on the islands of Hawaiʻi. Fresh groundwater from higher elevations seeps through the lava and mixes with seawater in the coastal pools creating a unique habitat. Through these activities, students build physical models and make observations to learn how the hidden groundwater is vital to the survival of these culturally significant pools.
Anchialine Pools STEM Kit, Grades 9-12

In the classroom students learn about inherited traits. In the field, students examine the traits of juniper trees and play a game to model how the environment can act on traits and affect how trees appear. Students also examine kit fox traits and play a game to discover what happens when a trait provides an advantage for survival.

The Teacher Resource Bag is to be used while hiking either the Dune Life Nature Trail (or the Boardwalk if the Dune Life Nature Trail is closed) with students. The Dune Life Nature Trail is a one mile loop trail in the monument that features "Katy the Kit Fox" and all the parts of her life: food, shelter, water, avoiding predators, and what she does to play. This trail is a favorite with kids and adults alike!

Fort Clatsop Explorers Traveling Trunk 6-8th Grade

Fort Clatsop Explorers provides objects and activities about the Lewis and Clark Expedition and their winter stay at Fort Clatsop in 1805-06. A few of the objects included are: buckskin clothing, candle mold, flint-n-steel fire starting kit, powder horn, trade items, Jefferson Peace Medal, examples of furs and a housewife (sewing kit).
