Human-accelerated climate change could cause a serious decline in the population of the Shenandoah salamander. During this in-classroom ranger program, students will learn about the environmental threats to the Shenandoah salamander and determine ways people can help protect species and care for their national parks and the environment.

This park ranger-led classroom program is designed for 4th grade students. They will learn about the National Park Service, Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park, and the people and events of the Civil War in the Shenandoah Valley. Students will have the opportunity to engage with a hands-on activity about Civil War uniforms and camp equipment. Every Kid Outdoors 4th grade access passes will be distributed to students.

Today, archeology at Grant’s Headquarters at City Point helps the National Park Service tell the story of over 12,000 years of history: from the first people to explore the area, to the establishment of plantations, through the Civil War.

There were many "turning point" moments of the Battle of Gettysburg, each critical to the battle's ultimate outcome. In three-part virtual field trip/distance learning program, students will analyze primary source documents including maps, officers' reports, and soldier accounts, from three different Union regiments and then developing their own response to the essential question of which they believed to have been the most important "turning point."
