Exploring the African Burial Ground

African Burial Ground trips consist of a 90 minute visit, which includes a site film, a ranger led discussion, and a tour of our memorial, as well as a chance to explore the exhibits in our visitor center. On-site visits are offered Tuesday-Saturday at 10 AM, 11:30 AM, 1 PM, and 2 PM and are limited to groups of 40 people or less.

Fridays at 10 AM. Meet a variety of interesting people from the past who lived and worked on Governors Island, and helped make history happen! Kids will meet people of all stripes, from soldiers to prisoners and laundresses from throughout history.

Biodiversity Curriculum: Flipping for Adaptations

Students will show what they have learned by drawing and writing about their “flipped” animal to encourage creativity and thoughtful response in how these adaptations help their animals survive in their unique environments. As an extension, students can do further research on specific animals and their adaptations by making “What Am I?” cards to play in class.
