This curriculum has 5 (five) teacher-led lesson plans that provide in-depth opportunities to study different earth science processes and concepts. The lessons include pre-visit and post-visit classroom activities as well as on-site activity descriptions, maps, and worksheets for the park field trip. Students will learn that wind, water, and ice are the forces that drive weathering, erosion, and deposition. They will discover that some of these processes occurred long ago, and some are still occurring today. Students will make observations about the rocks and minerals that make up our sand. Students will understand that the dunes at Sleeping Bear are special and that plants that grow on them can change them, too.

How do park rangers and community members protect special places like Acadia? Students explore the current research projects happening in the Park. Then, they become "Junior Scientists" as they study biodiversity and learn to address the challenges facing our environment today. The schoolyard will be utilized as on outdoor classroom!
