Join national park rangers for this live, interactive educational program. Students will be introduced to Zion National Park and learn about the Mexican Spotted Owl, a threatened animal that lives in the canyons of Zion. Please email us for more information and to register for this program.
Format
1.) Students will meet the presenting ranger and see photographs of Zion National Park
2.) We will then go on a virtual hike through Zion’s two major habitats: desert and canyons
3.) Students will learn characteristics of a desert environment and high elevation canyon environments
4.) Students will then assist the ranger in identifying the animal who left clues behind
5.) Students will learn about the adaptations that make a Mexican Spotted Owl a predator and how they catch their prey
6.) Time will be allowed for questions.
Objectives
The participating students will be able to:
-identify a desert environment and a canyon environment
-list three adaptations Mexican Spotted Owls have for catching prey
-Explain the relationship of predators and prey
