Railroads, Rivers, and You!
This dynamic STEAM-based program incorporates Common Core Standards in science, mathematics and language arts while exploring the history of railroading in the region and its impact on the environment. On-site activities provide students with opportunities to learn about the various jobs, duties and teamwork traditionally associated with railroading; role-play as a track maintenance crew conducting train wheel and track measurements to ensure safe and efficient operations; and take a brief hike along the LHVA trail system to the Lackawanna River to sample water quality and search for living organisms."
Class sizes should be limited to 40 students or less per day.
Experience has proven that completing the pre-visit lesson plans enables students to be much better prepared for the on-site activities and greatly enhances their overall experience. To request the plans you may send an email to an Interpretive Park Ranger who will respond to your request as soon as possible.
