Objective
As a result of this lesson plan, students will be able to create a monologue of one of the two leaders of the opposing forces at the Cowpens.

Characteristics and research of both leaders will lead into this assignment.
The leaders involved in the Battle of Cowpens were both skillful leaders with very different upbringings, strategic planning skills, and military backgrounds.

Students will research some age appropriate monologues to prepare for the own piece as either Daniel Morgan or Banastre Tarleton.

Procedure
Teacher will begin with discussion of the elements of a monologue.
Students will be given a copy of Shakespeare’s Hamlet monologue
Students will then, after researching the leadership and personal characteristics of both Daniel Morgan and Banastre Tarleton ( prior to this lesson) create their own monologues.
Vocabulary
Monologue - a long speech by one actor in a play or movie, or as part of a theatrical or broadcast program.
Character - the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.
Leadership - the action of leading a group of people or an organization
Assessment Materials
Students will turn in a hard copy of their monologue and present to the class.Related Lessons or Education Materials
Selected monologues will be performed at the battlefield right before tactical simulation.
