Legacies: Underground Railroad Descendants - Akilah Jaramogi
Akilah Jaramogi is a direct descendant of the Maroon people who lived at the ‘Negro Fort’, a NTF site, at what is now Prospect Bluff located in the Apalachicola National Forest in Franklin county Florida. In 1815 when the British withdrew from the Fort they took some of the African Americans (freedom seekers) to Trinidad. Mrs. Jaramogi serves as the CEO of the Merikin Heritage Foundation, preserving the heritage of African Americans in Trinidad.

Grant Program Q&A Webinar
ASALH hosted the Network to Freedom for a Q&A session leading up to their 2021 grant deadline. Although Network to Freedom staff cannot review the applications prior to the deadline, they answered questions about the application itself and the application process. Historic Preservation Fund Grants Webinar, 11.04.2021
