El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail was a route of trade, conflict, and cooperation between Mexico City and Ohkay Owingeh (San Juan Pueblo) in New Mexico. Blazed atop a network of indigenous footpaths and trade corridors, the Spanish settlement expedition of 1598, led by Juan de OƱate, brought settlers, priests, soldiers, indigenous and mestizo guides and servants into today's New Mexico. Discover some of the sites along this historic trail.
