Learn about NRCAs
The Natural Resource Condition Assessment (NRCA) Program provides framework, funding, and publishing support to parks to aid in the synthesis and documentation of natural resource conditions. Condition assessment reports are a tool to describe selected park resources, and record a snapshot of their current condition, identify trends, and identify potential or current threats and stressors. Understanding the condition and trend of natural resources is key for parks and NPS planners to appropriately prioritize and allocate stewardship resources.
Located in south-central Kentucky, Mammoth Cave National Park is home to the longest cave system in the world. Over 426 miles of cave passageways have been surveyed, making it 1.5 times longer than the second-longest cave system. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an International Biosphere reserve, the 52,000-acre park is home to thousands of years of human history and a diversity of plant and animals. In addition to touring the cave system, visitors to the park hike, bike, fish, horseback ride, canoe, and camp.
