The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America's historic and archeological resources.
Social Media
The National Register of Historic Places has over a million photographs in our collection. We post photographs to:
- Flickr: over 20,000 photographs in our photostream.
- There is an additional group where anyone can post photographs of properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places
- Instagram: Follow us, like us, or just look at the pretty pictures in our collection
- Use #nationalregisterofhistoricplaces when posting your own photographs of properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places
- Facebook: Most of our posts include photographs
- Like us or tag us @NationalRegisterNPS
- Use #NationalRegister and #historicpreservation when talking about NR properties
We have had a a stellar team of interns help with our social media and description pages (from teaching us what "tagging" means to running contests posting photographs, answering questions, creating web projects, and everything else). This team included: Karolyn Moore, Kelsey Poblacio, Mary McDonald, Katherine Schroeder, Alicia Guzman, and Emma Trone.
