Automobile Alley Historic District

Period of Significance: 1860-1965
The district was initially listed in 2016 with 46 contributing resources for its significance as the focal point for the automobile industry in Mobile for approximately 50 years. A 2023 boundary expansion added three additional contributing resources to the district. As documented in the nomination’s Section 8 “Statement of Significance,” automobile dealers clustered along this particular street in Mobile due to its proximity to the local rail yard, as automobiles were usually shipped by rail at that time.

Burton H. Hurd House

Period of Significance: 1912
This house is one of many Colonial Revival-style houses found throughout New York state. However, this nomination documents the significance of this particular house to the community of Elmira through a comparative analysis that concludes that “Elma has very few residential examples that exhibit the same level of high style design that is displayed at the Burton Hurd House” (Hurd Registration Form, p. 18).

Irishtown Commercial Historic District

Period of Significance: 1868-1954
The Irishtown Commercial Historic District is significant both for its extant 19th-century resources and for its development as a response to a residential neighborhood’s need for commercial services in an area not served by expanding streetcar lines. The district incorporates architectural trends and development patterns that occurred nationwide (e.g., revival architectural styles, concentrated commercial core), but its significance is grounded in its relationship to the abutting residential area.

Little River Rural Historic District

Period of Significance: 1760-1960
Little River Rural Historic District is significant to more than one community or area without achieving state-wide significance. The approximately 23,000-acre district includes several formally established villages and the nomination documents matters of importance not to the state of Virginia but rather to the communities and residents that comprise the district.
