Discover Our Diverse Cultural Heritage

Eligible National Historic Landmarks are often identified and evaluated through theme and special studies. While theme studies use comparative analysis of properties associated with broad themes in American history - like women's history or early America - special studies focus on more specific topics in the historical context of the United States for evalution purposes.

Follow the links to the right of this page to find NHL studies of interest, to learn more about the thematic frameworks that structure our studies, or to learn more about our Heritage & History Initiatives, which work to further the representation of diverse stories within the National Historic Landmarks Program and elsewhere within the National Park Service.
