There are over 400 national parks. Many of these parks have a military connection. Some were transferred from the War Department in 1933. Some were historical areas significant to war and peace. Some are recreational areas where people can unwind. Many are natural and manmade areas where military activity occurred. Discover where military stories happened and are shared through the national parks.

Military Stories in National Parks

This map invites the user to find parks with American military stories across the US, including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Parks are marked with green and white pins. In areas where many parks are found, pins are grouped into large clusters, represented by black circles with numbers indicating the number of pins included in the cluster. Clusters divide into smaller clusters, and eventually individual pins, as the user zooms in on the map. Clicking on a pin opens a popup with the park name and a link to the park's webpage.
