Marine Barracks
- Locations: Boston National Historical Park
Built by the Marines between 1810-1811, the Marine Barracks is the oldest extant Marine Corps structure in the United States. This building acted as the lodging place for the U.S. Marines guarding the Navy Yard, as well as temporary quarters for Marines serving aboard warships coming in and out of Boston. Here, Marines could also find a barbershop, post exchange, chaplain’s office, movie theater, brig, and pistol range. The Marines served the Yard until its closure in 1974.
