Writing Prompts

Opinion: How does your community dispose of trash? If you were in charge of collecting and processing trash in your city, town, or school, what would you do to improve waste management? Include reasons that are supported with facts and details.

Informative/explanatory: Archeologists have discovered middens on San Nicolas Island. Refer to the midden Glossary entry. After reading the entry, make a list of all the items that could have been found in the island's middens. Use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to inform about and explain the topic.

Narrative: Write a short poem about disposing of or recycling trash. Develop real or imagined experiences using an effective poetic technique.
