October 1 [Sunday]. Strong wind from W with sunshine, the horizon is clear. At 5 o’clock came to a big stone which is 12 mi. W from San Nicolas Island. Also, noted an underwater reef. At 6 o’clock fired the cannon and lifted a signal. A white signal was lifted on the shore, as well. I went ashore, brought Tarakanov’s entire crew, and also brought two Kad’iak girls. At 4 a.m. came to San Clemente Island.
