2021 Presidential Inauguration

The 59th Presidential Inauguration on January 20 is completely virtual! In support of local government and public health officials, everyone can participate in virtual inauguration options instead of attending in person to minimize health and safety concerns. Press Information

Members of the media with questions about the Presidential Inauguration on land managed by the National Park Service or other information about agency related to Inauguration Day in DC can contact the National Mall and Memorial Parks' Office of Communications. Additional information for the media is also available on the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC)’s website.

Press credentials: Only media with U.S. Secret Service-issued inauguration credentials will be able to access the National Mall through January 24, 2021. For questions about media credentials, contact the Presidential Inaugural Committee at [e-mail].

Commercial Filming or Photography

Please Note: The National Mall and Memorial Parks is closed at least January 15 through 21, 2021. Commercial filming and photography permits will be issued only for National Park Service-managed land in the greater D.C. area that is currently open to the public.

Commercial filming and photography on land managed by the National Park Service requires a permit. Commercial filming and photography applies when:

• filming, videotaping, or still photography is intended for immediate or eventual sale;

• filming, videotaping, or still photography involves the use of a model (or any on-camera talent), set, or prop;

• filming, videotaping, or still photography/filming has potential to result in damage to park resources or significant disruption of normal visitor use;

• the photographer/videographer wants to go into areas not open to the public or before or after normal visitation hours;

• or the National Park Service and/or US Park Police incur costs for providing on-site management and oversight to protect agency resources or minimize visitor use conflicts.

First Amendment Demonstration Permits

Please note: The deadline to apply for a permit through January 20, 2021 has passed.

All demonstrations with more than 25 people require a free permit to address potential safety and resource protection considerations and to avoid conflicts with other permitted activities. Demonstrations include picketing, speechmaking, marching, vigils, religious services, and other activities that involve communicating and expressing views or grievances with one or more people with an expectation to draw a crowd of onlookers.
