A Promise to the People

After every presidential election, the nation comes together to witness the newly-elected president and vice president take the Presidential Oath of Office in the heart of the nation's capital. This peaceful transition of power to the next leaders on Inauguration Day has grown and changed over time, but continues to bring people from across the country to be a part of history and celebrate democracy. The National Mall and Memorial Parks, Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site, and President's Park serve as a backdrop for Inauguration Day.
