The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (legislation) provides a historic investment in wildland fire management. As part of the nation’s efforts to address climate change and support resilient, climate-adapted communities, the legislation provides $5 billion for federal wildland fire management efforts over the next five years. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service will receive $3.5 billion while the Department of the Interior (DOI) will receive approximately $1.5 billion for wildland fire management. Both departments will coordinate closely to maximize the benefits of these additional investments.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will provide funds to NPS over the next five years to help mitigate and reduce wildfire risk, recover from wildfires, and increase recruitment and retention of the NPS wildland firefighter workforce through supplemental pay, permanent position conversions, and improvements to health, wellbeing, and training.
