Wilderness character is what we measure and manage for to protect the wild nature of wilderness as well as your experience in it.

Wilderness character includes things like maintaining natural ecosystems, keeping management actions to a minimum, and keeping the impacts and influence of the modern world at bay so that visitors may experience wild nature.
