FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are there classrooms on site?
With prior arrangements, the Visitor Center theater may be available for groups smaller than 45.

How many chaperones are required for my group?
For most programs, the Park requires one chaperone for every ten students. However, the 4th grade “Vessels and Vocations” requires at least four chaperones and the 3rd grade “Change and Continuity” program aboard the Eureka ferryboat requires one chaperone for every seven students.

What if it rains?
The field trip will go on rain or shine. If you need to cancel due to rain, please let us know 24 hours in advance. If rain is forecasted on the day of your trip, please advise your students to dress warmly, and wear raingear and rain boots if possible.

Where should we eat lunch if it rains?
Unfortunately, the Park does not have any indoor space for groups to eat lunch.

Are all the ships available for tours?
Weather conditions, tides, and scheduled maintenance can affect ship access and availability. Check with the Park in advance to find out which ships are open.

How much time should we allow for our visit?
Check your teacher packet for the running time of your ranger-led program. Generally education programs run between one to three hours. Teacher-led tours can last as long as the instructor wishes.

Do I have to bring a signed Media Release Form for each student?
Park Rangers may make special requests to take photos. Please bring the provided Media Release Form(s) if necessary.

If we are scheduled for a ranger-led program at the pier, is it possible to explore the Visitor Center or Maritime Museum on our own?
Of course, feel free to explore the entire Park. Please remind chaperones and students to follow guidelines on Park Rules and Guidelines to ensure a successful visit for all. Admission is free to the Visitor Center and Maritime Museum.

Are all education programs free?
Ranger-led or teacher-led education programs are offered at no charge to K-12 classes and higher education institutions.
