Accessibility

There is no public access to Saint Croix Island. At the mainland facility, the Ranger Station, interpretive trail and shelter, parking lot, pathways, and restrooms are accessible. Parking near the shore is not recommended due to the steep grade.

People visiting Saint Croix Island IHS stop along our interpretive path to read about the French arrival to the area. A sculpture of a Passamaquoddy woman looking out at the water is next to them.

I want to make my own plan, what is there to do?

The first thing you should always do is stop by Saint Croix Island International Historic Site, but then....

• About 10 miles from the park heading south on Route 1 (in the town of Perry) you will find the 45th Parallel Marker. The 45th Parallel wraps around the globe and marks the halfway point between the equator and North Pole.
• Just more than two miles north of the park is Devil's Head Conservation area with a few miles of trails and good views of the river.
• From the park head north about 8 miles and you will hit Calais where you can stop by the Wabanaki Culture Center and find an office of the Maine Visitor Information Center. Both are at 39 Union Street.
• In Calais, turn on North Street and at the corner of Lincoln Street is the small Meridian Park. At the highest point of the park you can find the remnants of the Calais Observatory. By 1895 the site was no longer used.
• Drive through Calais on North or South Street and continue on, and you will find Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge.
